Landscape and local communities. The value of biodiversity and its articulation in three phases - knowledge, participation and communication - is part of the specific objectives of the European Landscape Convention and develops the basic ones that constitute the starting points for the application of the Convention.

The knowledge of the landscape, its description through the reading of the territory aimed at the identification of the landscape components, detected by the synthesis of the reading elements related to the morphological, ecological, historical-cultural and land use aspects. Its evaluation especially under the ecological and biodiversity aspects, considering the particular nature of the study area, lying between two protected natural areas, the Pollino and the Lucanian Apennines, and the presence of numerous Sites of Community Interest.

Awareness raising, training and education, in order for local communities to take ownership of the landscape and the value it represents in terms of economic potential and quality of life.
Communication through storytelling using the tools of photography, literary narration and travel.

The purposes of this project are: to strengthen the knowledge of the landscape as a cultural and identity element in the communities, called upon to play an active role in its management and planning; to offer Administrations a cognitive framework to be used for the formation of protection tools, with a clear reference to the concepts of biodiversity and quality of life of the administered communities; to solicit the activation of policies at the various decision-making levels for environmental and naturalistic requalification and landscape protection.
