Museo del Lupo ad Alessandria del Carretto
Museo del Lupo ad Alessandria del Carretto

At the behest of the Pollino National Park Authority, in collaboration with the municipal administration, Museo Naturalistico del Lupo (Wolf Naturalistic Museum) was opened in Alessandria del Carretto in 2014 with the aim of raising public awareness of the respect and protection of this important protagonist of the local fauna at risk of extinction.

Following a tragic and violent event that took place in 1995 on Sparviere Mount involving wolves and shepherds, the Pollino National Park Authority decided to set up a Wolf Naturalistic Museum in Alessandria del Carretto with the clear intention of raising the awareness of tourists, visitors and the entire community to respect, preserve and protect the wolf, the symbol of an uncontaminated nature rich in biodiversity.
In the former primary school building, which has undergone major renovation and refurbishment, the Pollino Park, in synergy with the municipal administration, inaugurated the Museum in 2014. Through a layout composed of dioramas recreating the different habitats of this protected area, it tells the story of the wolf and its relationship with man.
The facility also hosts seminars, conferences and events on the subject.

Visiting hours
Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
It is also possible to visit the Museum at weekends by appointment at times to be agreed.
