Here over 30,000 books serve to meet the demands of the 24 towns that are part of Pollino National Park (Castronuovo, Calvera, Castelluccio Inferiore, Castelluccio Superiore, Castelsaraceno, Carbone, Cersosimo, Chiaromonte, Episcopia, Fardella, Francavilla in Sinni, Latronico, Lauria, Noepoli, Rotonda, San Costantino Albanese, San Giorgio Lucano, San Paolo Albanese, San Severino Lucano, Senise, Teana, Terranova di Pollino, Valsinni and Viggianello), and of the neighboring towns (Roccanova, Sant'Arcangelo, Gallicchio, San Chirico Raparo, San Martino D'Agri, Missanello). All in all, the area counts 70,696 inhabitants.
After Matera’s MUSMA, the International Museum of Graphics, which has chosen as logo a spider web made by Guido Strazza (a skillful engraver that grew up in a Europe that had been united by art before politics) is biggest source of income for the territory if not for the whole region, and it serves to light up the interest in historical towns. For the mayor and the council’s will, the Museum was in fact built right at the center of Castronuovo Sant’Andrea, in order to bring the old abandoned area back to life. Together with the Chapel of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Mother Church, Palazzo dello Speziale, Marchesale Castle and St. Andrea Avellino’s home, the museum serves its purpose pretty well.
Giuseppe Appella took care of the works that are showcased in the museum: works that have been engraved or printed using different techniques (woodcut, etching, linoleum, lithography, screen printing).
